51CrV4 is a spring steel that has a higher strength than other types of steel. There are various applications for spring steel. Due to its high strength and wear resistance, this spring steel is suitable for highly stressed components, such as cams for assembled camshafts or springs in automotive and mechanical engineering. In each of these applications, however, it is crucial that the hardness of the material is distributed correctly across the cross-section. The elasticity as the main characteristic of a spring steel is achieved during the manufacturing process in the steel mill by means of a special alloy, e.g. by adding an increased proportion of silicon. In addition, the carbon content must be distributed as evenly as possible during production.
