Our history

From the founding in 1864 to the present day

1864

Founding

Peter Friedrich Julius Brockhaus founded the company “Friedrich Brockhaus” in the Oestertal (Wiesenthal) to manufacture wire mesh and household goods.

Merger

The Wiesenthal and Oesterau plants merged during the difficult times of the 1920s to form “Brockhaus Söhne oHG.

Dismantling

After the Second World War, all machinery and equipment of the cold rolling mill were dismantled at the instruction of the occupying forces.

1964

New business areas

Jacques G. Brockhaus founded “Dr. Brockhaus Messtechnik GmbH & Co. KG” in Düsseldorf, thereby expanding the company’s fields of activity.

2002

Re-establishment

Dirk E. Brockhaus became the sole shareholder, repurchased the plants, and founded “Brockhaus Stahl GmbH.

2020

Internationalization & Sustainability

Establishment of the subsidiary “Brockhaus Polska” in Częstochowa (Poland). In addition, the Group announced that since 2019 it has been operating CO₂-neutral in the areas of cold rolling, environmental technology, and recycling.
